To Whom It May Concern:
I am contacting you about possibly sponsoring me (Sammy Chagolla) an athlete who is currently training for the World Freestyle Wrestling Championships in Ankara, Turkey. To qualify for the United States World Team I had to place in the National Veterans Wrestling Championships on April 9th, 2009. I finished 2nd in this tournament and have now qualified to represent our city, state and country on August 14-16, 2009. To be a member of the United States Veterans Freestyle Wrestling Team indicates that I will be one of two chosen from the entire United States at my weight class. To represent the United States is a once in a life-time opportunity, especially at the age of 45. Not many people are willing to train and sacrifice a part of their life to accomplish this goal. As an athlete, I have always dreamed of fulfilling this goal, and with your help I will successfully achieve the dream.
I’m a former graduate of Peoria High School who eventually became a teacher in the Peoria Unified School District. I have been with the Peoria Unified School District for over 21 years. I’m currently an Assistant Principal at Ira A. Murphy Elementary School where I help teachers focus students to be future leaders. My accomplishments now and in the past have given me the desire to strive for the Gold in Turkey. It takes a great deal of time, sacrifice and dedication to reach the level of proficiency in any sport to represent the United States. The sport of wrestling has been the training ground for my success as a student, teacher and now administrator. It has given me the passion to be the best I can be no matter how old I am. I give credit to my teachers, family, wife and colleagues for keeping me focused with my dream. Anything is possible!
Unfortunately, the cost of travel expenses and training gear is expensive. Everyone who knows me will tell you that my desire to accomplish any goal is important. With your financial help, I will be more focused knowing that my community and state are supporting my dream. It has become necessary for me to ask for financial assistance from individuals, businesses and community groups for my trip. Any contribution will be put to good use for airfare, hotel expenses and wrestling equipment. Checks should be made out to Sammy Chagolla.
Once my goals are met, any extra money will be given to a scholarship fund for students that are in need of assistance to excel in their future. Remember, we need to pay it forward.
Thank you for your consideration. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call me. I will be more than happy to talk to you personally, or meet with any group.
Sammy wants everyone to know that “Life is so short.” We need to help each other make a difference in the lives of our kids. Everyone grows up different, but it’s the people who take the time to help others that people remember. I want to personally thank all of my teachers, coaches, family, friends and my wife. Without these people I wouldn’t have had my success in life. I want to specifically thank Mr. Tim Haverluck for believing that this story could help others accomplish their goals. I want everyone to know that Mr. Koury has given me a quote that I live by everyday. He said to me, “The struggles you have today…are the stepping stones to your destiny.” I will never forget him and his positive attitude. He is my mentor and coach. Thanks for always believing in me!
Respectfully,
Sammy Chagolla
